This is genuinely the first photograph I ever shot, I think it would have been 1987 when was around 8 years old.
I re-discovered it when doing a talk about my work a few years ago and wondered whether my early forays into photography showed any glimpse of talent or flair…sadly…they did not!
It is the view of a river mouth, somewhere in Somerset which I shot on a residential school trip. The image was taken on a very battered Box Brownie camera that I bought from a jumble sale stall at a school fair. Whilst I remember being intrigued by the process of recording moments in a camera, it certainly did not spark any love affair with photography (that came many years later) and I recall being generally disappointed with the results when the prints came back – no doubt due to my poor technique!
